Small Engine Reference Design User Guide Welcome to the Freescale Small Engine Reference Design Kit. This product was designed to be a complete solution for the electronic control of a small engine. Small engines are defined as a one or two cylinder engine for use in anything from a motorbike to a lawn mower to a generator. While the decision was made to address a one-cylinder engine specifically, this design is extremely useful for a two-cylinder engine with little or no modification. Freescale’s concept of creating an engine control kit is intended to enable a market ranging from garage hobbyist to seasoned Tier 1 Powertrain Engineer using Freescale products.
Through the use of this kit, you can create an engine controller specific to a small engine application. Engine control is a discipline that requires intimate knowledge and experience in Chemical, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering. For those familiar with mechanical control of an engine through a carburetor, the use of this reference design kit can help to advance your knowledge in the electrical area and provide a jump-start for a successful adoption of electrical engine controls to meet new emissions standards. Providing a kit such as this is intended to make semiconductor products from Freescale easier to use. The user is responsible for providing all input signals, output loads as well as the completed system design and development. This kit should serve as a starting point for the development of an application specific engine controller for a small engine. Example software and documentation are provided to assist in successful design and implementation. It is recommended to have the following skills and experience: embedded C-language programming, analog and digital circuit design and schematic analysis, microcontroller programming, fuel injection system debugging and calibration, and engine test environment experience. Additionally, there is further benefit to experience using the CodeWarrior Development Studio and the Freescale S12(X) microcontroller Units (MCUs). The User Reference Guide provides exercises and references to additional information to reduce the learning curve for inexperienced users.

Freescale’s goal is to enable the small engine market. To clarify this point, the hardware included in this kit can readily be configured and reprogrammed to run an engine. However, it lacks the application specific hardening (EMC, ESD, and environmental areas for example) and implementation optimization that make it a production ready module for any specific application. Further, the free example application software provided is a starting point capable of running an engine. It does not apply any advanced control strategy capable of addressing the pollution concerns and regulations facing the small engine industry. To do this would become application specific to an engine and could not be and should not be implemented by a semiconductor supplier as it is deeply outside their area of expertise. The example application software does show how to use the key functionality in the Freescale products that the kit is based on, which speeds up the development process by showing a working example.

The contents of this kit will save many months of work, even for experienced powertrain engineers just looking to evaluate Freescale products. A system has been created based on a one-cylinder closed-loop engine controller using integrated technology while being cost-effective for the small engine market. Example software is provided that can be customized to run an actual engine that has electronic fuel injection. Documentation is provided to aid in going through the process of developing an application. Finally, information on modifying the design to support the adaptation of the small engine reference design to your application goals.

2009 HAV 300 Owner’s Guide. Jump Starting the HAV 300 If the HAV 300 cannot be started because the battery is out of charge, it can be jump started from another battery. NOTE: Batteries produce explosive gases and other explosive fuels may be present during the jump starting process. Keep smoking materials, sparks and fl ames away from the battery at all times. 1. Use high quality jumper cables and make sure all connections are clean and solidly
connected. 2. Wear proper eye protection before attempting a jump, in case of acid contact with skin, eyes or clothing. IF ACCIDENTAL CONTACT DOES OCCUR, FLUSH IMMEDIATELY WITH WATER FOR ONE FULL MINUTE AND SEEK IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION. 3. Connect positive (+) terminals fi rst. Be sure to NOT cross the cables while making connections. Do NOT allow contact between the cable clamps while making connection. 4. Connect one end of the ground cable to the ground (-) terminal on good battery fi rst. Then connect the other end of the ground cable to a solid, bare-metal connection on the engine. Do NOT connect to the negative (-) terminal of the battery. 5. Start the engine.
6. Disconnect the ground cable at both ends before disconnecting the positive (+) cable.All PBM Supply & Mfg., Inc. equipment is designated by a serial number. On the HAV 300 Series, the serial number is stamped on the plate riveted below the left-hand side of the driver’s seat. The engine, spraying pump, and other equipment on the HAV 300 may vary by individual unit manufactured number. When contacting PBM Supply & Mfg., Inc for services, parts, or general assistance, please be ready to supply the manufacturer and model number information.For a period of one year, PBM Supply & Mfg., Inc. warrants to the original purchases, that all new PBM Sprayers and other PBM manufactured products sold to the buyer wether direct or by an authorized PBM Dealer, will be free of defects in materials and workmanship.
PBM Supply & Mfg., Inc. obligation is expressly limited, at the sole option of, to the repair or replacement of those parts determined by PBM Supply & Mfg., Inc. personnel to have failed due to a defect as described above. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES shall this warranty be interpreted by anyone to apply in those cases of failure due causes such as vehicle or other accidents, acts of God, transportation, neglect to perform required maintenance or other customer required services, abuse of the equipment, or causes not from the ordinary operation of the product. BD AutoLoc Torque Convertor Control System Guide Currently, exhaust brake usage can cause high temperatures in the automatic transmission due to torque convertor slippage. Only 10% to 80% of the retarding force is transferred through the fluid coupling of most torque convertors.

The BD AutoLoc commands the lock-up clutch of the torque convertor to stay engaged when the BD Exhaust Brake is activated. This allows up to 100% of the retarding force to be transferred while in 3rd and 4th gear. Also, transmission oil temperatures will remain low because of little or no slippage occurring in the convertor in these gears.

Performance Engine Components 2007 Guide Standard camshafts offer a good compromise between the daily requirerements from an automotive engine: sustained high speed on open roads, smooth engine idle at low rpm and low exhaust emissions. Due to feedstock availability issues, dedicated biomass plants for combined heat & power (CHP), are typically of smaller size and lower electrical efficiency compared to coal plants (30%-34% using dry biomass, and around



22% for municipal solid waste). In cogeneration mode the total efficiency may reach 85%-90%. Biomass integrated gasification in gas-turbine plants (BIG/GT) is not yet commercial, but integrated gasification combined cycles (IGCC) using black-liquor (a by-product from the pulp & paper industry) are already in use. Anaerobic digestion to produce biogas is expanding in small, off-grid applications. Bio-refineries may open the door to combined, cost-effective production of bio-chemicals, electricity and biofuels.

Assessment of Aircraft Engine Components Guide The probability of fracture of an aircraft engine component is highly dependent on the geometry and stress values at the location of anomalies that may occur during the manufacturing process. The efficiency and accuracy of the method used to construct the spatial conditional failure joint probability density function (JManual Guide) associated with fracture is dependent on the number of limit state evaluations at each location and on the number of locations used to describe it. Previous studies have focused on modeling this JManual Guide and associated risk contours as a multivariate histogram associated with regions within the domain that are referred to as “zones”. To ensure conservative estimates, the uniform probability density for each zone is set to the maximum possible value within the associated region. The primary disadvantage to this approach is that it requires human judgment for definition of zones and for identification of the maximum conditional failure probability within each zone. In this paper, an approximate approach is presented for estimating risk contours that is based on a series of crack growth life contour values associated with a range of initial anomaly sizes that are placed at the nodes of a finite element model.
